Dear potential
GLIF-demo participants,
I'm writing this mail as person responsible for coordination of demos during the 7th GLIF workshop in Prague, and on behalf of all CESNET organizers... We would like to hear from you if you are interested in making a demo show during the GLIF workshop. We'll be very pleased if you decide show the demo, of course. Unfortunately, we have only very limited knowledge of the demos that are being prepared at the moment. It's essential for us collect information about all the planned demos... and that's the reason for this email. As mentioned above, we'll be very happy to support each demo, but because of workshop venue is inside a historic building (see http://www.ces.net/glif2007/venue/ ), there will be some restrictions and limitations. The demo show-floor area is relatively small (see http://www.ces.net/glif2007/prog/demo-area.html ) and thus we prefer the demos that have smaller footprint on the site. It means no giant tiled screen walls (though small ones can be supported), no big clusters of PCs and so on. This doesn't apply for 'CineGrid' demo which will take place at different location. Please keep this restrictions in mind during the demo planning. The show floor is small and we would like accommodate all demos. On site preparation of demos will be possible from Saturday (September 15th), 18:00 local time (CEST). I know, it's very limited amount of time but we have no choice as there is another meeting there preceding ours. Good news is you can work on preparation continuously - means also over the nights from Saturday to Sunday and from Sunday to Monday. It's assumed that hardware for every demo will be self-covered by each participant. CESNET has very limited possibilities to provide some devices for the demo purposes. Of course, we'll do our best for helping you with your demo preparation, we will bring power supply cables, optical patch cords and so on. But if you want any devices like PCs or LCDs from us, it needs to be negotiated in advance. Hardware needs for each demo will be solved separately. So, first of all, we need to get an idea, how many demos will be in Prague, who will be responsible for each of them and also their general equipment needs. In order to facilitate this, we prepared a simple questionnaire which is located below. Please fill in this form out if you have intent to do some demo at the GLIF workshop in Prague and send it at GLIFDEMO@xxxxxxxxx. DEADLINE for demo application is August 17th 2007. GLIF workshop Prague'07 - demo QUESTION-FORM: ***************************************************** 1) Demo name: (will be used as a part of unique demo identifier) 2) Responsible person(s): (name + contact information) 3) Responsible organization and other bodies which will be cooperated: 4) Expected devices used for the demo: (because of space planning - mainly numbers, types, dimensions etc.) 5) Expected power consumption of the whole demo (in Watts): (please note, that electricity in the Czech Republic is 230V/50Hz and the plug type is "E" - see http://www.kropla.com/electric2.htm ) 6) How many power outlets will be necessary for your demo: 7) How many interfaces (on the infrastructure side) do you need: (please specify also parameters of required interfaces as speed (1G/10G); optics/metallic; fixed (850, 1310, 1550 nm) or pluggable transceivers (XFP, XENPAK); connectors etc.) 8) Connectivity requirements: (commodity IP (expected speed); p2p circuit/lambda; shared connectivity via VLANs; cross connect of circuits/lambdas on international level; other special requirements for connectivity etc.) 9) The demo diagram: (it will be great have some figure of the demo - especially the scheme of connections between devices and the infrastructure) 10) Special requirements: -------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you very much for your cooperation and we are looking forward to see you in Prague!
